2008 Washington State Games Badminton

Washington State Games, an Olympics for the state, is a program that started around the Centennial Games (1989) and has struggled since.  In 2008, the Seattle Sports Commission took over the program and they have invited WSBA to run the badminton games.  So here we are……

Despite summer, which is a time for vacation, boating and all sorts of outdoor activities in the northwest, we have 95 players who participated in last weekend badminton games.  We started on Friday afternoon at 4pm with the juniors, moved into the Open Mixed Doubles, 50+ Men’s Singles that evening and all other events on Saturday.

There are a lot of first times.  First time we have junior, open and senior events in the same tournament.  Siling Wu made her first debut in a tournament.  Welcome Siling, hope to see you in future tournaments.  First time we have numerous veteran & junior teams – Masako/Bryan, Masako/Amy, Ufilya/Clara, Long/Ann, John Tong/Amy Jin.  Many thanks to all the veterans who played with our juniors.  You have definitely helped these young talents advance to the next level.  Oh yes, first time the first 50 entries get a door prize of either a Yonex overgrip, Yonex Nanogy 95 string or a half dozen tube Yonex Mavis 300 plastic birdies.
