2008 Washington State Games Badminton

Washington State Games, an Olympics for the state, is a program that  
started around the Centennial Games (1989) and has struggled since.   
In 2008, the Seattle Sports Commission took over the program and they  
have invited WSBA to run the badminton games.  So here we are...

Despite summer, which is a time for vacation, boating and all sorts of  
outdoor activities in the northwest, we have 95 players who  
participated in last weekend badminton games. We started on Friday  
afternoon at 4pm with the juniors, moved into the Open Mixed Doubles,  
50+ Men’s Singles that evening and all other events on Saturday.

Most Finals held on Sunday and the winners are:

Open Mens Singles – Curtis Stensland
Open Womens Singles – Amy Jin
Open Mens Doubles -  Kevin Yu & Ronald Langingi
Open Womens Doubles – Ufilya Davis & Clara Lam
Open Mixed Doubles – Marti Fagnan & Geoff Stensland
U13 Boys Singles – Adrian Unruh
U13 Boys Doubles – Adrian Unruh & Gregory Yuen
U13 Girls Doubles – Jessica Yuen & Johanna Lee
U16 Boys Singles – David Wong
U16 Boys Doubles – Chris Hua & Chirag Ved
U16 Girls Doubles – Jessica Lin & Rebecca Yuen
U19 Boys Singles – Ernest So
U19 Girls Singles – Amy Jin
U19 Boys Doubles – Bryan Lam & Jason Lai
U19 Girls Doubles – Erika Baker & Amy Jin
U19 Mixed Doubles – Ernest So & Janet Chong
35+ Mens Doubles – Fred Yu & John Tong
35+ Mixed Doubles – Katherine Ip & Frank Lee
50+ Mens Singles – Sing Lam
50+ Mens Doubles – Sing Lam & Randy Chen

There are a lot of first times.  First time we have junior, open and  
senior events in the same tournament.  Siling Wu made her first debut  
in a tournament.  Welcome Siling, hope to see you in future  
tournaments.  First time we have numerous veteran & junior teams –  
Masako/Bryan, Masako/Amy, Ufilya/Clara, Long/Ann, John Tong/Amy Jin.   
Many thanks to all the veterans who played with our juniors.  You have  
definitely helped these young talents advance to the next level.  Oh  
yes, first time the first 50 entries get a door prize of either a  
Yonex overgrip, Yonex Nanogy 95 string or a half dozen tube Yonex  
Mavis 300 plastic birdies.
